I hope everything comes out all right.....
Hi Everyone,
Thank you Krista, Caterina, Emmad and Giulianna....I really appreciate all of your help and being wonderful classroom managers.
Did you get my joke in the blog title? Yes, we talked about the digestive system today. What are some things all nurses and doctors in traning should know about the digestive systems of infants, children and adults? Well, we should all be "going" one or two times per day, that's for sure! We learned today that if waste product does not leave the body as it should, it can cause infection and other problems. We also learned that simple changes in diet can help us "go" easily, without too much effort. We know what that can do to us, right? Ouch.
Congratulations to all that responded to my request for definitions of "borborgymus" and "flatulence". I will give you examples of these tomorrow. Yeah....you'll see...or is it hear? :/ You'll all get 5 points of extra credit.
Tonight: Finish MTP #3 ! Pleeeease do not wait until tomorrow...this assignment requires time and effort, as it will become your script for the scenario-based role-play. Make this count. Patient education will be one of your greatest skills out in the field. See me for props if needed.
Tomorrow: Blood Drive participants at GHS...please get to class as soon as possible. Thank you to all of the volunteers. That's great...and certificate worthy!
RED CROSS CLUB at GHS: Meeting in Ms. Miller's room - S2 - tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
PM: Think ahead...anticipate the need - ask your teacher and a parent for WRITTEN permission regarding the 10/11 meeting on "Cancer Survivorship" from 11:30 to 12:30 at Valley Care Medical Plaza (it's not at the hospital, but near there). Get this in advance please and let me know if you are going. Do not attempt to get permission if it jeopardizes your other class (es) in any way. Especially if you have a test! There will be plenty of future meetings offered. See me and I'll give you a flyer.
See you tomorrow and we'll work more on the digestive system....and more.

Happy Monday !
Hi Everyone,
Thank you Joey, Korrina, Imran and Param for being classroom managers today. You were great assistants.
ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE HAD A Tdap injection within the past three years. HAVE YOUR PARENT check in with your doctor tomorrow by phone and confirm that this has occurred. If not, have them make an appointment for you to go in.
Check the previous blog entries (with your parents please) about this week's assignment on educating a patient, as well as upcoming dates of importance.
Please do not email me your assignment. Find a way, through a friend or relative to print it out.
All papers must be typed according to the directions. Please see me if you have any questions.
Tomorrow...we start using our stethascopes and we'll listen to rumblings in the abdomen...hmmm...care to find the definitions of: borborgymus and flatulence?
Have a great evening.

Happy Tuesday!!!
Hello Everyone:
Thank you Marisol, Monica, Kalo and Cynthia for being excellent classroom managers!
Please contact your school's Career Center about CSF (College Scholarship Federation).
Learn more about scholarships that are available!
DRESS CODE ALERT: Please choose your school wardrobe carefully. Be conservative in your choices. This goes for the women and the men.
Is there a club at your school for students interested in bioscience or medical careers?
If so, please contact me! Ex: SIMS club at AVHS (students interested in medical science) or the
Pre-Med Society at GHS
If you borrowed a medical dictionary...please return it tomorrow!
Sexual Harrassment and Photo Acknowledgement Forms are due tomorrow.
Both require parent signature!
Here's how to do MTP #2: Find a medical article in one of my journals or online - WebMD or MedlinePlus. Read the article and find five (5) terms that you know absolutely nothing about. Type up these words and define them completely. Attach the article to the back of your typed paper with the words/phrases highlighted. DUE THURSDAY 9/23.
Did you know that you can get medical alert KEY CHAIN now? Maybe this is not such a good idea.....why? hint: Maybe you won't always have your keys with you!!! Oh well, nice idea anyway.
If you birthday is coming up....maybe during the holidays....ask for a BP cuff and a stethascope of your very own. We'll be working on taking blood pressures in class. I have them in class, but it would be great to own one yourself.
Tell your parents something really cool about the circulatory system, okay? ...and ask them to sign your forms!
Take care,

Uniforms.....Make sure you have been fitted - tonight's the deadline. Problems? Call me!
Bring stories in about breach of confidentiality...let's discuss the damage (legal and otherwise) that can be done by commiting "SLANDER" or "LIBEL" which can cause "LIABILITY" - rememer the "L" on the forehead? In my class, that means liability.
Arrrrrrrre your pirate costumes ready? Bring treats to share on Monday too, Mateys! How about some oranges so we won't get "scurvy"???? Bring in the definition of "scurvy" and the "etiology" of it tomorrow and I'll give you 5 points E.C. Type it up and make sure your name is on it! It will be collected at the door.

So Many Professions--So Little Time!
Hello Everyone!
Thanks again to my classroom managers for today, Kamal and Lexi M.
Also, special thanks to Kalo for her fabulous graphic work!
Regarding progress reports and grades, I will report this information directly to each school. It will not show up on your school websites.
We're going to see a movie tomorrow about MEN IN NURSING. For the men in the class, keep an open mind to your opportunities. And by the way, nursing isn't just for women anymore.
PM CLASS: Don't forget to bring me your permission slips for your senior picnic.
Blog homework: Bring me a smile tomorrow!
