The main topic of the assignment is "ERGONOMICS" - body mechanics and movement that prevent injury. All medical personnel need to practice this! So many have to quit due to back injury from lifting patients, equipment and supplies incorrectly.

Some need to take it from you and then return it. Don't forget to follow up with them! Try for this Thursday as your date to retrieve it.

Nice job today folks !
I hope you enjoyed playing around with medical word parts, abbreviations and actual words. We'll do more of that, but next time we put the word parts together so everyone can see whole words. Please remember there are medical terminology games online to play...just make sure they are no charge to you or a parent. Thanks.
Thanks to Jessica L., Alicia L., Jessica S. and Eva for being classroom mangers today. I really appreciate your help!
Thanks also go to Armaity, Eva, Lexi B. and Kalo for helping tonight at the Sports Physicals at LifeStyleRx. Way to go!

Hello Medical Professionals !
I hope you had a nice weekend. I know some of you put in some hours on Monday...nice work!!!
Tomorrow, I will do a demonstration of the new blog assignments. The topics are varied and some will require you to go to particular websites to complete certain assignments. These are graded and must be completed on time for credit. We will also dust off our medical terminology cards and practice once again. Please make sure you have your medical terminolgy cards with you if you took them home. Keep your CC binder with completed timesheets with you so you don't have to run to your car please. Thank you very much.
For those of you helping out at the Sports Physicals tomorrow night, 1/19 - please bring your uniforms, badges/lanyards. Please dress appropriately and have your hair up in an "up do" or off the face entirely. Thanks so much to: ARMAITY, CRISTINA, LEXI B. AND KALO. Your help is appreciated. Remember to arrive at LifeStyleRx around 5:30 having had dinner or a good snack. You may add 3.5 hours to your time sheet for 1/19. Bring along some water!
We'll continue our lesson on telephone etiquette, appointment/surgery scheduling and patient reception. I have a story for you.
Please have the draft of your training plan with you. I would love to see your progress. Let me know if you need any help. Remember...no wimpy training plans! Fill them up!
Take care and have a wonderful evening.

Plan for Training
Hi All,
Get creative with your training plan - sit with your supervisor or a staff member by appointment and they will help you discover new tasks to add that are current or ones you can do under supervision or on your own at some point. Look up job descriptions online as well. Be mindful of our scope of practice, which not performing tasks that penetrate the skin. Some sites do not allow direct patient contact, so go with what is standard protocol for you site.
As mentioned before...PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me with questions. I will allow the training plans to be turned in early. You may also submit a draft to me for review.
By the way....GREAT JOB EVERYONE for turning in time sheets on time as well as doing all those wonderful hours during the holiday!!!!
Have a great evening!

Happy New Year Medical Professionals !
Hello Students: Please read the blog carefully and bring in your time sheets and homework!
For tomorrow:
Time sheets (12/13/10 to 1/2/11) - Separate time sheet for each week!
Journal check - make sure you make your journal entries each day you are at site.
HOMEWORK: Prepare a draft of a training plan, using the example in your CC binder. The final must be typed, but you may bring in a neat, handwritten one for tomorrow. Please make sure you have this with you. I do not want students creating this during class, but to have a good draft ready to work with. 25 points - Turn it in to the classroom manager when you arrive.
GREAT OPPORTUNITY - All expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. !!!
Since its inception in 2004, the Bank of America Student Leaders Program has recognized more than 1,400 exemplary high school juniors and seniors with a passion for improving their communities. The program's goal is to cultivate and develop the next generation of community leaders through two components: An eight-week paid internship in the summer of 2011 with selected nonprofit organizations designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Nonprofit Host Organization.
A week-long all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., July 17-22. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, nonprofit and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.
Please note the application deadline of January 12th for the 2011 Student Leader Program. Please encourage interested students to apply by going to

Welcome Back From Holiday Break
Hi All,
First, I'd like to thank all the students that volunteered at their sites over the past two weeks. How nice of you to help out and of course, you got to earn extra hours.
I will put some info on the blog tomorrow regarding what to bring to class on Monday. Please make sure you have your time sheets signed and ready for Wednesday. Remember, I need separate time sheets for each week. Please do not combine weeks on the same time sheet.
Take care and keep an eye on the blog!
